Advert description
I have years of experience researching and teaching history from positions in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, South America, Japan, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. My global background provides a unique perspective for teaching all aspects of history in a variety of contexts.
I have extensive teaching, tutoring, lecturing and mentoring experience both at home and overseas, from High School to Graduate level. I am accustomed to lecturing to large groups of students and to running closely focused seminar and tutorial classes. I also have significant experience of online teaching. I am a fully qualified teacher (PGCE) and I believe myself fully equipped me with the skills necessary to deliver the required courses.
My teaching philosophy is a simple one. While the function of a lecturer is not to provide entertainment, it is vital that students are, and remain, fully engaged throughout the course. This means interesting and relevant course materials, presented through effective and engaging teaching methods. In my experience, this requires adaptability; the ability and willingness of the teacher to adapt methods and materials to effectively serve the needs of students. I consider myself an effective teacher and all my student evaluations have indicated this.
In addition to the teaching of history to students with English as a second language, I gained extensive experience of teaching English as a second language during my four years in Japan and Argentina.
I have a BA from the UK, an MA from the USA, and I received my PhD in Australia.
I also have a sense of humour.
