Advert description
I am in the fourth and final year of my political science PhD in the Environment Centre at Lancaster University, a top ranking education institution for research in the UK. During those 4 years I have taught on a number of higher education modules: a critical geography fieldtrip to New York to a class of 20; a ‘Geographies of Africa’ module to 15 undergraduates; and demonstrated to a class of 50 1st year undergrads in a qualitative methods seminar.
I have a number of years’ experience of teaching English as a foreign languages. I passed my CELTA certificate in 2015, gaining a Pass B mark. I spent the following year teaching English in Berlin, delivering tailored lessons to a variety of classes: kindergarten children, businesses, trade unions, and individual students.
On returning to Lancaster I continued my teaching career, volunteering to deliver A1 and A2-level English classes to asylum-seekers and refugees under the local City of Sanctuary programme.
I subsequently delivered a more formal Skills for Life language course with the company Al Hayat, delivering nine hours of teaching every week for two years to a cohort of 30 mostly Syrian refugees. Language abilities ranges from illiterate in their Syrian mother-tongue to English A2 level. I also delivered Life In the UK training and lessons, enabling all 12 students to pass their exams and complete one more step to gaining their UK passport.
I have continued to successfully deliver C1 Advanced exam (CAE) and IELTS to individual students with The Language Company while studying for my PhD over the past 4 years.
