I would first get a grasp on the student current capabilities by giving questions and asking them how they would solve it. If I find their method to be inadequate or they don't know how to solve I would show them methods I've used during GCSE as well as giving 3 questions between easy, medium and hard difficulties for them to solve using that method. I won't show them the answers if they struggle but I will pave the way on how to solve it using critical thinking.
