I tutor in mathematics and chemistry to GCSE and A level. I have many years' experience inn teaching these subject and for mathematics I have my own web site, on which students can obtain unlimited practice in solving problems on all GCSE topics.

Learning should be "active". In my lessons the student must participate all the time. "Passive" learning - reading notes/books, listening to a teacher, etc. does not commit the methods and techniques involved to long term memory.

I have an MA in mathematics and philosophy from York University and a PGCE from Oxford University.

I shall be happy to provide a 30 minute assessment free of charge. Parents are welcome to be present at the first (or subsequent) lessons.

All students can learn, no matter what their starting point is. I only focus on the highest grades, and once a student sees that learning is not so difficult, he or she usually finds the confidence to aim at and achieve such grades. The one-to-one environment is completely different to a class situation, where student participation is minimal or zero.
