About me

My online lessons take place on Google Meet where I share my screen and guide students through problems step by step. I focus on the topics that students find most challenging, explaining ideas clearly and showing how to approach each question with confidence. Every lesson is interactive and I always encourage students to think through the steps themselves rather than just watch me solve problems. This builds real understanding that lasts beyond the lesson.

I have been tutoring GCSE Maths for over a year and have worked with students across AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam boards. One of my students went from a grade 4 to a grade 8 after I started tutoring her from Christmas in Year 11 through to her exams. Seeing that progress was really rewarding because it showed how much can be achieved with consistent effort and the right support. I always tailor my lessons to each student’s goals and learning style, whether that means covering tricky topics from class, improving exam technique or practising problem solving.

Before each lesson I prepare material based on what the student wants to work on but I am also happy to adjust and teach new topics during the session if needed. I can set homework or extra practice questions between lessons for students who want it. The only thing I ask is that students come ready to learn and give their best effort. If they do, I will make sure they get as much out of every lesson as possible.

I also offer in person lessons where I travel to the student and deliver the same focused, structured teaching as my online sessions. These lessons work in exactly the same way, but being face to face allows for even more interaction and support. I bring all the resources needed and make sure students feel comfortable and confident working through problems together.

What makes me different is that I have recently completed my GCSEs myself and achieved straight 9s in Maths and Science. I know the content and exam structure inside out because I have been through it very recently. This means I can explain topics in a way that makes sense to students who are sitting the same exams now. I understand the pressure that comes with revision, mock results and the final exams, so I always try to make my lessons a space where students feel supported and confident. Because I am now studying A level Maths, Chemistry and Physics, I can connect GCSE ideas to what comes next in further study, showing how the skills they are learning now form the foundation for more advanced work. I enjoy helping students see how everything fits together and helping them realise that with the right mindset, every topic can be understood. My aim is to help students not only achieve great grades but also genuinely enjoy learning and feel proud of their progress.

Finlay is an amazing tutor who really helped my child gain confidence in maths. His lessons are always clear, well prepared and focused on what the student actually needs. He explains everything in a way that makes it easy to understand and always checks that the student really gets it before moving on.
