Lessons for students 16+ to improve writing and speaking

I have ten years' experience as a writing tutor and English professor. I offer lessons in academic writing, and in spoken English.
I consider it very important to foster a safe and welcoming learning environment, where students will be supported as they learn. Everyone comes with their own strengths, weaknesses, and hangups from old English teachers, so I tailor my approach to each individual student. Many students think that grammar is their biggest problem with writing; I'm here to tell you, that's almost never the case. Much more often it's not knowing what you want to say, or not knowing what that part of the essay is supposed to accomplish. I use a process of guided practice and constructive feedback, to help each student build skills, and build confidence. With work and a little help, anyone can become a more competent and capable writer.
