Advert description
Hi! My name is Sarah. I am a final year Sociology student at the University of Edinburgh. Having just finished my dissertation, I am now available to offer 1:1 tutoring sessions for all SQA examination levels.
I have completed two years of English Literature MA at the University of Edinburgh, maintaining A grades throughout. My specialities lie in modern, and post-modern poetry - my favourites being T.S. Eliot's 'The Waste Land', and Sylvia Plath's 'Lady Lazerus' and 'Blackberrying'.
Alongside English Literature, I have extensive experience engaging with philosophical texts, including the works of Kant, Camus, Adorno, Butler, and de Beauvoir. My dissertation was primarily centred on psychoanalytic theory and philosophical frameworks of ideology, further strengthening my critical and analytical approach to reading and writing.
As a Sociology student, my degree is highly essay-intensive, with a strong emphasis on critical thinking, argument construction, and social analysis. This background is especially beneficial for students who may feel intimidated by close reading papers, persuasive essays, or exam writing under pressure.
I also received High School awards for achieving the highest grades in History and English, with particular recognition for persuasive writing and my sixth year dissertation.
I hold a Level 2 PVG qualification, gained through my work as a Support Assistant for students with learning difficulties at Edinburgh College. I am experienced in adapting teaching styles to suit individual learning needs and building confidence in a supportive, patient environment.
I am well-placed to tutor English as I combine strong academic achievement with an essay-based, analytical background and a supportive, adaptable teaching approach that helps students understand challenging texts, build confidence, and succeed in their SQA examinations.
Lessons will be both collaborative and tailored to the individual student, beginning with an initial consultation to identify strengths, areas for development, preferred study techniques, and academic goals.
