Conversational Spanish with a Culturally-Informed Tutor | Interdisciplinary Background in Sociology, Philosophy & Media

Hello! I’m Luis, a native of Seville (the largest city in southern Spain).

Over the past 10 years, I’ve lived in several European countries, including England, the Netherlands, and Germany, and I’m currently based in Scotland. These multicultural experiences have deeply shaped my perspective and enriched my approach to language teaching.

My passion for communication and culture has led me to combine my main profession in video editing with Spanish tutoring and audiovisual proofreading. I’m currently completing a joint honours degree in Sociology and Philosophy, and I also hold degree-level training in Audiovisual Media and ICT. I studied Film Editing and Scriptwriting at a film school in Spain, and I enjoy bringing creativity, cultural awareness, and critical thinking into the learning process.

With over a decade of experience teaching Spanish, I now focus primarily on conversational sessions, helping learners develop real-world fluency, confidence in speaking, and a deeper understanding of the culture. My sessions are flexible and always tailored to your individual goals and interests.

ABOUT THE LESSONS

Each session lasts 45 minutes and is designed to strike a balance between fluency-building and focused support. I always keep the learner’s goals at the heart of the process. After the first class, I work with each person to develop personalised sessions that are tailored to their needs, interests and preferred pace, so we shape the sessions together.

The sessions are structured as follows: the first 30 minutes are conversation-based and follow what I call an interview-style approach. I guide the discussion towards topics relevant to the learner’s objectives, encouraging natural speech while challenging them to expand their vocabulary, fluency and confidence. The final 15 minutes are focused on targeted feedback. I highlight areas that could benefit from improvement (whether related to grammar, pronunciation or vocabulary) and we discuss potential topics to explore in future sessions.
