Clarinet tutor, accepting beginner and intermediate students, up to Grade 8 standard

I am an experienced solo and orchestral clarinettist, and hold a Bachelor's degree in Music at the University of Edinburgh, where I specialised in clarinet performance.

During my time at university, I played with multiple orchestras, often holding principal positions, including in the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. I have a wealth of audition and exam experience, and am willing to coach on pieces and excerpts alike.

I also have plenty of experience with solo performances, and I am very knowledgeable about different aspects of performance practice. I am eager to pass this knowledge on to the next generation of clarinettists! :)



I like to give my students as much of a say as possible in what they want out of their lessons. I will generally start by hearing a performance of the music that the student has been working on, after which I will ask them what they enjoyed about their performance, things that went well, and things they would like to work on. After which I will suggest things that I thought were successful, and maybe other areas to improve.

We then will take a deeper look at some of these things, and working together, we will devise strategies, exercises, and techniques to help address these elements of their performance.

If useful, we will discuss music theory, as well as historical background, in order to help the student feel more connected to the music.

At the end of the lesson, we will recap things that we have worked on, things that we feel were successful, and elements of the music that can be worked on, along with strategies to do so. This could include things like slow practice, studies, scales, or exercises.
