Psychology - AQA A Level Online Tutoring- 31 Years Experience Teaching, Tutoring and Examining

Advert description
I am an extremely experienced AQA A Level Psychology tutor. I completed my BA (Hons) in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Leeds in 1989. I taught Psychology (across many levels, from GCSE to degree) at Blackburn College between 1995 and 2015, the last eleven years as head of subject in sixth form. During this period Psychology became the most popular A Level subject we offered and one of the most successful in terms of attainment. I left at that point to establish myself as a self-employed private tutor, exclusively using the First Tutors platform which recently ceased trading.

I have also been an A Level Psychology examiner since 1996, and became a senior examiner with AQA in 2004. I have examined on all three papers on the AQA specification and have been a senior examiner on Paper 2 continuously for the last fifteen years. However I am extremely familiar with the entire specification, and well aware of the changes to the syllabus which will be examined for the first time in Summer 2027.

Since I began my journey as a private online tutor I have built a reputation as a specialist in exam technique. In the period directly following the Covid-19 pandemic I have been increasingly contacted by prospective tutees who. whilst enjoying the subject and seeming on the whole to 'get' the content, really struggle to convert that knowledge into the specific demands of examination-type questions. Many students (and their teachers!) believe that Psychology is among the most challenging subjects in this regard; consequently my approach to tutoring tends to be pragmatic - I like to set between 12 and 24 marks worth of 'homework' questions for my clients at the end of each session (depending on their specific needs) which they complete and submit by the day before their next tutorial. I commit to mark it, provide detailed, digestible feedback and this work forms the focus for the following session. Additionally I am able to provide support for any topic area which tutees may be finding tricky. I like to think I am approachable, friendly, flexible but most importantly practical and encouraging.

I hold an enhanced DBS which I update annually. Moreover I am happy to offer a free initial session for prospective tutees and their parents to help them decide whether I would be a good fit for their particular needs and circumstances.
