Advert description
I am a professional cartoonist, illustrator and writer with over 30 years’ experience working across publishing, broadcasting and education.
My cartoons and comic strips have appeared in publications including Private Eye, The Guardian, The Bookseller and the BBC’s in-house magazine Ariel. I have published numerous books for children and adults with publishers such as HarperCollins, Random House and Puffin. My book Learn to Draw Cartoons is now in its 10th edition, and several of titles have been bestsellers at retailers including Waterstones and Amazon.
I have been a professional cartoonist and art teacher for over 30 years. In that time I have taught many others to draw ranging from people who believed they 'couldn't draw a straight line' to artists who now work for the national press in their own right. I use two cameras for our sessions-one so we can talk and one so I can demonstrate techniques for you in real time.
I have taught at primary, secondary and adult levels, including 3 years as a Special Needs teacher working with many students who have ADHD or Autism and my lessons are personal, fun and designed to get you drawing and creating content as soon as possible.
Whether you or your child's ambition is to get published, get confident for your art GCSES or A-Levels, to publish your own cartoons, strips or books.. or simply to have fun, we can tailor the lessons to achieve just that!
I trained at the National College of Art and Design and Bolton Street College of Print Technology in Dublin and was the original tutor at the Museum of Cartoon Art. I have taught cartooning, fantasy art and book illustration for many years, including at the London Art College. I have also worked in broadcasting as a resident cartoonist on Nickelodeon TV and as a comedy writer for Virgin Radio, BBC Radio 4, Channel 5 and the World Service.
