HOW I WILL TEACH YOU ENGLISH ABROAD AND WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT FROM ME
By Oginga Joseph Ogwire - Your Future English Teacher
Good morning my dear class,
My name is Teacher Joseph Oginga, I am 34 years old, from Kenya, and I am a fully qualified DPTE Primary Teacher trained at Bondo Teacher Training College from 2017 to 2023, with over one year of classroom experience at Majengo and Kasau Primary Schools, and I am honored to be your new English teacher abroad. I did not come here just to teach you English from a textbook. I came to transform your lives, just as I have transformed many learners in Kenya from struggling to excelling. Today I want to tell you clearly how I will teach you and what you should expect from me every single day.
First, how I will teach you English. I will not make you memorize and forget. I will make you live English. My teaching is built on four pillars: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing, but taught with joy, energy, and real life.
For Listening, I will speak to you in clear, simple, correct English every day, slowly at first, then faster as you grow. I will tell stories, play audio, and use real conversations from market, airport, hospital, and home, so you understand English as it is spoken in real world in Canada, UAE, USA, or UK. I will listen to you too, because a good teacher must listen first.
For Speaking, my class will be noisy in a good way. Every child will speak every day. No child will be left silent or shamed. If you are shy, I will be patient. If you make a mistake, I will celebrate your courage first, then correct you gently. We will do pair work, group discussions, role plays, drama, and debates. You will introduce yourself, order food, ask for directions, interview each other, and present to class. My promise: Within three months, you will stand confidently and speak English without fear, because I will make the classroom the safest place to try.
For Reading, I will bring English to life. We will not only read the textbook. We will read storybooks, newspapers, simple novels, signs, letters, and your own writings. I will teach you phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension tricks. I am trained in handling children with special needs, so if you read slowly or struggle with letters, I will sit with you personally, adapt my method, and ensure you are not left behind. No child will be called dull in my class.
