Science tutor teaching students of all ages

Advert description
As a Pharmaceutical Studies graduate, and a current medical student, science is all I know. My golden skill is that I am able to translate even the hardest of topics to wrap your head around, into little chunks of info that anyone is able to understand, and in a way that is enjoyable so that you will never forget it!

I have been continually teaching my colleagues my whole life, and only recently I realised to put it to good use by becoming a tutor and expressing my passion to teach and convert initially bamboozling topics into a walk in the park.

I am able to teach Science of all ages, as well as Mathematics, and a couple of foreign languages to a conversational level such as Arabic and Bulgarian. My personality is very relaxed, down-to-earth, and my goal is to make lessons more of a conversation where I can exchange ideas and thoughts with my students, rather than just spoon-feed information. Learning is best performed when the student is actively recalling ideas from their heads, after all.

I achieved the CREST Silver Award, where I was fortunate enough to teach Year 5 children science lessons for a 10-week period - it was very rewarding knowing that the childrens' interests in the field of Science grew week-by-week, and eventually expressing their gratitude towards myself and the team for enabling them to discover a passion that they didn't realise they had before. I am highly eager to get started right away to making a difference, no matter the size, to any student who is keen in learning and excelling in their academic performance!

The main thing to know about my style of lessons is that it will most definitely be as interactive as possible. I want the lesson to be more of a conversation where we bounce off each other rather than spoon-feeding information; what's the point when anyone can just go on a YouTube video and absorb info in that way? Learning is supposed to be like a construction site; the foundations are built first (the bigger picture), and then we can start adding the final touches (filling in the details, the knowledge gaps).

Via my online lessons, I will explain topics using a blank canvas on the laptop and draw a 'mind-map' of what it is we are discussing, and after that, I will basically 'test' via active recall methods, the content that has been learnt in that session, whether that may be through interactive MCQs, past paper questions, oral questions, etc.

My experience involves teaching Year 5 children science classes (where I achieved the CREST Silver Award), and generally I have been teaching students my whole life without even realising it! I often make 5-minute videos of me explaining topics in university (which are complex and contain lots of intricate details), to my friends and they have praised me about how incredible it is that I was able to convert really long-winded topics, into a 5 mintue timeframe that addressed all of their confusions and difficulties with that particular topic. This is a skill that I believe is not easy to get by, and I truly hope that I am fortunate enough to instil that within our lessons!

My personality is laid-back, down-to-earth, but also very committed in ensuring that, by the end of the lesson, you (or your child) manage to leave with at least one piece of valuable information engrained into your memory which you are able to put into effect at school or via exams. I look forward to teaching you!
