Advert description
During my undergraduate, I mentored sessions of 4-6 KS3/4 students at Exeter Maths School. The sessions covered advanced mathematics that typically went beyond their school syllabus. This encouraged me to be articulate with explanations and improved my ability to communicate maths.
I am also currently working part-time as a teaching assistant and maths intervention support, where I facilitate teachers in maths lessons, and provide students who need it with extra support. This has helped me to become more adaptable as a lot of these students don’t have the required knowledge to answer basic questions, meaning I had to spontaneously teach some areas.
My teaching approach is usually student centred. Constantly asking questions to elicit understanding ensures that students are actively participating in session and not just using receptive skills. This helps instal theory into their long term memory and is likely to provide better output in exams.
