I have a PhD from the University of Cambridge. Experienced science tutor offering support with all levels of high school Physics, Biology and Chemistry
Advert description
I prefer a friendly and casual environment to interact with my students, rather than being formal. I've taught tens of students at GCSE, IB, AP and A-level levels. I've taught Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, as well as more advanced STEM courses at university level as an undergraduate and postgraduate teaching assistant.
I like to run interactive sessions, explain concepts visually and work through lots of exercises and problem-solving to help understand the concepts better. I'm patient and always happy to keep running through challenging topics until my students are comfortable with them. I'll sometimes set some homework to help consolidate what we've done in the lessons, and spend the beginning of the next lesson going over things from previous lessons before moving on. I also like to focus a lot on exam technique and running through past exams, to make sure students have the confidence and knowledge to perform well on their exams, but I always emphasise the need to understand concepts deeply and not just to learn for the sake of passing exams. I think it's very important to also be able to offer advice on careers, universities, especially for my older students, to help them transition and feel comfortable with making the move from school to university. I know that these big changes can be overwhelming, so I emphasise the need for pastoral support as much as academic support because I believe the two go hand-in-hand. I believe I have a lot of life and academic experience, beyond my academic results and excellence, which I'm happy to share with my students if they need it.
