I hold a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International and European Law from Utrecht University's Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe (RENFORCE), which I obtained in July 2021. My doctoral research focused on statelessness and the right to nationality in Nigeria, comparing methods of statelessness determination in the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the European Union (EU) member states. I have also presented my findings at expert meetings on statelessness, nationality, and migration, and have published peer-reviewed articles in reputable journals. I am actively involved in supporting the initiatives of the RENFORCE, and sometimes the McGill University Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism (CHRLP). The activities include participating in expert meetings, serving as a guest lecturer for the Master of Law programme in Public International Law, and contributing to online discussions. In 2022, during a roundtable seminar organized by Utrecht University’s RENFORCE, I had the opportunity to present the findings of my research on Emerging Law on Statelessness in Africa, specifically focusing on Nigeria and the Ivory Coast in a comparative context with EU states. As a member of RENFORCE, I had the privilege of co-authoring a report about Nigerian citizenship law for the Global Citizenship Observatory (GLOBALCIT) at the European University Institute. The GLOBALCIT is an online observatory and research network that offers an impartial and evidence-based analysis of citizenship laws and electoral rights across the globe. Additionally, I was honoured to be selected as one of GLOBACIT’s Country Experts.
