Advert description
Having completed my undergraduate degree in History in China and my Master's in Theology and Religious Studies in the UK, I sit at the crossroads of two very different linguistic worlds — and that is precisely what makes me an effective Chinese tutor.
I understand firsthand that Chinese and English are not just different languages; they operate on entirely different logical systems. English is built on grammar rules and inflection; Chinese is built on meaning, context, and structure rooted in thousands of years of cultural history. Simply memorising characters is like copying a painting without understanding the artist's intent.
My approach begins from the ground up: I teach the underlying logic of Chinese — how characters are constructed, how meaning evolves, and why the language works the way it does. I weave in cultural and historical context, so that learning Chinese becomes an encounter with a living civilisation, not a dry academic exercise. A character is not just a symbol — it carries a story.
Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to deepen your fluency, I will meet you where you are, build your confidence systematically, and make sure Chinese feels alive to you.
