My lessons are designed around you — your goals, your pace, and your curiosity. Rather than following a rigid textbook, I build each lesson from the ground up, starting with the logic behind the language: how characters are formed, how tones carry meaning, and how grammar flows naturally from context rather than memorised rules.
I draw on my background in History and Theology to bring cultural depth into every lesson — because understanding why Chinese works the way it does makes it infinitely easier to remember and use. A character is not just a shape; it has a history, a philosophy, and a story.
For beginners, I focus on building strong foundations — pronunciation, tones, and basic structures — so you never feel lost. For more advanced learners, we explore nuance, written expression, and the kind of fluency that goes beyond textbooks.
Lessons can be held in person in Birmingham or online, and I am equally comfortable teaching children and adults. I adapt my style to suit the learner — patient and encouraging for those just starting out, more challenging and intellectually stimulating for those ready to go deeper.
My goal is simple: to make Chinese feel less like a subject and more like a world worth exploring.
