Advert description
I am studying English (BA) at the University of Cambridge, achieving a First-Class Honours in Tripos Part1A. Drawing on my experience, I can provide students with tailored coaching in the areas of:
Reading: I can work with students to develop analytical close reading skills, encouraging nuanced, perceptive and sensitive approaches to unseen texts in a way that engages with students' personal interests while inciting curiosity for new topics.
Writing: I care about enabling students to revise their academic essays so that arguments are confident, focused, and well-structured, while encouraging pupils to foster a personal creative flair, fluency and enjoyment for writing.
Knowledge: Explore the contexts in which texts are written and received in depth and detail, as well as examining interpretations of these texts to help students review their own opinions as part of a wider cultural discussion. With exams in mind, I aim to consolidate students' knowledge of these critical concepts, literary cornerstones and terminologies with attention to relevance, precision, and accuracy of use.
My lessons can provide GCSE tutoring and exam practice feedback, implementing my previous experience with English mentoring for my secondary school. I will work with students’ requests to build foundational academic skills like improved comprehension, planning and communication through written pieces, as well as encouraging tutees not to be afraid of creativity.
Having taken two A-Level English exams on different exam boards to enrich my own knowledge, sitting both English A-Level and GCSE Literature and Language exams two years early, and sitting four A Levels (A*A*AA), I believe I can help students navigate the step-up to advanced level studies by improving their independent scholarship, making connections with other subject interests and shifting their thinking into a higher gear.
My lessons are also open to keen Oxbridge applicants looking for practice interviews, tips and tricks, support with admissions tests, essay portfolios and personal statements. Since English goes beyond exams, I am also open to tutoring students interested in English literature but not sitting GCSE or A Level qualifications; I can provide bespoke extracurricular enrichment on whatever texts interest you!
