I am an experienced Chinese tutor specialising in IB Chinese A & B, IGCSE/GCSE and A-Level Chinese. I have taught more than 30 students across different international curricula, with around 60% of my IB students achieving Grade 7 and over 90% achieving Grade 6 or above. I also have experience as a Chinese Teaching Assistant at an international school in Shanghai, where I supported IB and IGCSE classes with lesson preparation, teaching, marking and feedback. My lessons are highly personalised. I begin by understanding each student’s syllabus, school materials, current texts, strengths and areas where they are losing marks. For Chinese A, I focus particularly on close reading, literary and non-literary analysis, comparative writing, essay structure and oral assessment skills. Rather than asking students to memorise model answers, I teach them how to identify techniques, develop their own interpretations and turn their ideas into well-structured arguments supported by evidence. For Chinese B and language-focused students, I adapt lessons around vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing and oral communication, with targeted practice based on their examination requirements. I also use past-paper questions, timed exercises and detailed feedback to help students understand exactly how to improve. I aim to create a relaxed and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their own opinions. At the same time, I set clear goals and track progress so that each lesson contributes towards measurable improvement in both confidence and academic performance.
