As a student trying to be a tutor in secondary school, I understand how important it is for students to feel supported and understood during their learning. My lesson format is designed to be both structured and adaptable, depending on the student’s needs and learning style.
I would begin each session with a short recap of what we covered in the previous lesson, helping the student to refresh their memory and build a strong foundation. This would take 5 -10 minutes depending if they remember what happened or not. Then, we would move on to the main topic for the day, which I would explain clearly and simply, breaking it down into manageable steps. I would use examples, visual aids, and practice questions to make sure the student understands each part before moving forward.
I want my lessons to feel like a safe space where students don’t feel judged or rushed. I encourage questions and aim to make the student feel confident, even if they’re struggling. If something doesn’t make sense to them the first time, I’ll find a different way to explain it.
My approach is friendly, patient, and encouraging. I want my lessons to feel productive, but also enjoyable. I believe that when a student feels relaxed and supported, they learn better and start to believe in their own abilities.
Because I’m still in school myself, I can relate to the challenges students face. This helps me create a positive and respectful dynamic where students feel understood and motivated to improve.
