I am an undergrad student on a gap year. At A Levels, I studied English Literature, Biology and Psychology. I like to video call and give exercises based on the student’s needs. I also like the student to practice on their own before returning to me with what they’ve learned. I used to tutor my peers at GCSE and A Level as I had a good understanding of the content and much enjoyed the subject as a whole. As I am a student myself, I’m aware that everyone learns differently and I have tried various techniques which allows me to implement them with others as one will work better than the rest. Literature especially can be tricky to tackle but with the right approach, it can be enjoyable which is what I aim for in my lessons, so that my students feel ready for the next challenge I set them. I focus on positives which boosts the student’s confidence and also help them understand where to improve their skills. This means they feel encouraged and motivated to keep trying even if they do struggle, they are less likely to give up. English as a subject can be daunting when you prefer a black and white approach but it also gives you the freedom to express yourself, as long as you have the evidence to back up your arguments. This is why I love teaching it, so other people can learn and really understand how far they can go with good comprehension and analysis skills.
