Yue Xin

Hello! My name is Yue Xin, and you are very welcome to call me Joy. I am a native Mandarin Chinese speaker living in the UK, with a PhD and several years of experience teaching learners from different age groups and cultural backgrounds.

I believe that learning Chinese should be practical, enjoyable and tailored to the individual learner. Every student has different goals, so I do not use a one-size-fits-all approach. Before and during our lessons, I will take time to understand your level, interests and learning objectives, and then adapt the pace, materials and activities accordingly.

My lessons are friendly, supportive and interactive. Depending on your needs, we may work on everyday conversation, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, listening, reading or writing. I also like to use stories, pictures, real-life situations, short texts and cultural topics to make Chinese more meaningful and easier to remember.

For beginners, I can introduce Mandarin step by step and help you build confidence from the very beginning. For intermediate and advanced learners, I can provide more challenging conversations, authentic texts and discussions about Chinese culture, literature, society and everyday life. I also welcome students who are learning Chinese for travel, work, study or personal interest, as well as children who would like to develop or maintain their Chinese language skills.

I understand that speaking a new language can sometimes feel difficult or intimidating, especially when you are worried about making mistakes. My aim is to create a relaxed environment where you feel comfortable practising and asking questions. I will encourage you to use Chinese actively while providing clear explanations and guidance when needed.

Whether you are starting from zero or looking to take your Mandarin to the next level, I would be delighted to support you and help you make steady, enjoyable progress.
