My experience and methods:
I have previously taught students how to debate, and I did so using a combination of engaging activities such as PowerPoint presentations, opportunities to verbally practice what they have learnt and frequent opportunities to ask questions. To ensure that the learning is thorough, I encourage students to spend 15 minutes at the end of the lesson teaching me what they have learnt. This gives the students a chance to ensure that they fully understand the content, and is proven to further knowledge of a subject. I also encourage practice in-between classes, as complete learning can only be done with regular reminders of the content covered in lessons. This could take on the form of worksheets, exercise book tasks or simply reading aloud from a passage of text.

Content that will be covered in English as a Language:
I will first assess how much English the pupil already knows, and will do this by asking them to write a short essay about someone who inspires them or an imaginative story (depending on their age.) This will give me a grasp of their ability, and I will plan my lessons around this. I will focus on spelling, grammar and phonetics initially, and will then proceed into more complex sections of the language such as comprehension and topical conversation.

Content that will be covered in English as a GCSE:
I got a 7 in my English Language GCSE and a 9 in my English Literature, as well as an A in English Language A-Level. It’s fair to say I understand the content of English GCSEs, and would tailor my lessons to your specific exam board texts.
