My lessons are interactive, structured and adapted to the individual student. I usually begin by identifying what the student already understands and where the gaps are, rather than assuming we need to start from scratch.

When introducing or revisiting a topic, I focus first on creating meaning. I use relatable examples, diagrams, questioning and real-life scenarios to help students understand what is actually happening and why, before expecting them to memorise terminology. I regularly check understanding throughout the lesson and will happily explain something in a completely different way if it hasn’t clicked the first time.

Once the core knowledge is secure, we apply it through exam-style questions. I help students understand what questions are really asking, how to structure their answers and how to use mark schemes effectively. As their confidence develops, I gradually reduce my support so they become more independent.

I have eight years of secondary teaching experience in the UK, including teaching GCSE Biology and A-Level Psychology, as well as serving as Head of Psychology and Deputy Head of Year 11. This means I understand both subject content and the pressures students can experience around exams.

Lessons are friendly and encouraging, but purposeful. Students are expected to participate, ask questions and give things a go. My favourite moments are the “lightbulb moments” when a student suddenly understands something they previously found difficult.
