I am a qualified secondary science and mathematics teacher, although I qualified a long time ago. Before training as a teacher, I gained a physics degree, from Imperial College, London University.
What makes me different is that I have been a science author for 35 years. I have written more than 60 books for a range of major publishers, including the MIT Press, Chicago University Press, Bloomsbury, Quarto and many more. I write on a wide range of scientific topics, from physics through biology and chemistry to astronomy and astrophysics. I have written books for children and adults, and as a visual thinker, I always use clear and helpful illustrations in my work (particularly useful in science and mathematics, I feel).
I pride myself in being able to explain clearly and accurately – I always say my writing is authoritative and accessible – and to spot and correct misconceptions. I also write and perform science shows and lectures at museums and in schools.
I have done a lot of tutoring for GCSE mathematics and science in the past few years, and have found it very rewarding; that's why I have signed up at FindTutors.
