ACHIEVED GCSE GRADES: English Lang & Lit - 9s, Sociology - 9, History - 8
ACHIEVED A LEVEL GRADES: English Lit - A*, Sociology - A, History - A, Government & Politics - A

I teach with MS Teams, Word, and MS Whiteboard (I am open to switching platforms for students' convenience). The first lesson focuses on introductions: understanding your studies, your target grades, current progress, exam boards and dates, and your struggles with content and in general. The main aim is to establish a clear roadmap to help you stay calm during mock exams and make you confident in the real thing!

Closer to a mock exam, class test, or the real exams, I will switch focus to locking in exam technique and knowledge recall.

If you want to know what my post-18 support looks like, contact me directly!

A typical GCSE/A Level lesson features:
• 5 MIN – WELCOME CHAT: How the student is feeling, what was covered in class today, if they enjoyed or are struggling with the content they learned, if there is any homework they would like help with/if there is a topic they want prioritised.

• 6 MIN – RECALL: Either answering a five-question quiz or answering a 2, 4, or 6 Mark Question based on prior content. Constantly doing this improves recall and makes exam questions less scary by the time they see the paper.

• 30 MIN – CONTENT: Going over a topic as discussed in the roadmap meeting. There are plenty of opportunities for student participation, much like a seminar rather than a lecture, as understanding topics in your own words improves confidence and recall. I will help students create personalised knowledge tables/flashcards to have an easy-to-read bank of notes and plans. This is my favourite way to condense textbooks or class content into something easy to remember.

• 10 MIN – PRACTICE: The student is tasked with writing an essay plan and introduction or one paragraph to a 16 or 20 Mark question. This features dissecting the essay question, developing techniques for recalling info under pressure, and learning/using the exam board-approved sentence structure and paragraph formation to write a full-mark introduction or paragraph.

• 5 MIN – GOODBYE CHAT: How the student is feeling about what was covered in the tutorial, if they enjoyed or are struggling with the content they learned, if there is a topic they want prioritised/want to go over again, etc. I will only issue homework if students feel they can do more homework on top of what school gives them. Homework will be sent/completed via the Seneca Learning platform (which undoubtedly helped me achieve my As and 8-9s in my exams). That way, homework will be 5-10 minutes long and fun to complete!
