My lessons are structured to be practical, interactive, and tailored to the individual, with a strong focus on building real cybersecurity skills rather than passive knowledge. Each session is designed around the learner’s background, goals, and current level, whether they are completely new to cybersecurity, studying at university, preparing for certifications, or aiming to move into a professional security role.
A typical lesson begins with a short discussion to understand what you want to achieve and to set clear objectives for the session. From there, we move quickly into hands-on work. Instead of long slides or theory-heavy lectures, lessons revolve around real scenarios, guided labs, and practical exercises. You might analyse network traffic, scan and exploit a vulnerable system, investigate a simulated security incident, or work through a Capture The Flag–style challenge. I explain the underlying theory alongside the practical work, focusing only on what is necessary to understand why a technique works and how it applies in real environments.
The dynamic of the lesson is highly interactive. I encourage questions throughout and adjust the pace in real time to ensure concepts are properly understood before moving on. I regularly challenge students to think critically, explain their reasoning, and troubleshoot issues themselves, while providing guidance and support when needed. This helps build confidence and independent problem-solving skills, which are essential in cybersecurity roles.
My professional experience in a hands-on security role directly informs my teaching. I regularly draw on real-world examples to show how tools, techniques, and workflows are actually used in practice. By the end of each session, my aim is for students to leave having actively built skills they can apply immediately, with a clear understanding of how those skills translate to academic success, certifications, or real-world cybersecurity work.
