My art lessons are supportive, structured and creative, designed to help students grow in confidence while developing strong technical and creative skills. I tailor each session to the individual, whether you are working towards GCSE or A-level Art, building a portfolio, or simply wanting to reconnect with your creativity.
Lessons usually follow a clear but flexible format. We begin by discussing goals and reviewing current work, then move into practical activities such as drawing, painting, mixed media, textiles or experimental processes. I place strong emphasis on observational skills, idea development, sketchbook work and refining outcomes, while encouraging personal expression and curiosity. For exam students, I provide clear guidance on assessment objectives, annotation, contextual research and exam preparation, helping you understand exactly what exam boards are looking for.
I have over 23 years’ experience teaching Art and Design, including KS3, GCSE and A-level, as well as international school teaching and adult education. Alongside teaching, I am an active professional artist, regularly exhibiting and running weekly adult art classes locally in Framlingham. This means my teaching is grounded in real, current artistic practice, not just theory.
I am deeply involved in the local art community and passionate about making art accessible, enjoyable and meaningful. My teaching style is calm, encouraging and practical, helping students build skills, independence and a genuine love of art.
Overall, I offer a strong balance of experience, creativity and clear teaching methods, combining in-depth knowledge of exam requirements with the insight of an active, practicing artist. My broad background across secondary education, adult learning and professional art practice allows me to adapt quickly to different learning styles, abilities and goals. Whether supporting exam success, portfolio development or personal creative growth, I aim to help every student feel motivated, capable and proud of their work.
