I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and my teaching is rooted in experiential, interactive learning. I bring long professional experience in architecture and interior design, including concept development, spatial planning, technical drawing, CAD and 3D visualisation. I sit on assessment and moderation panels and act as an external examiner, which gives me a clear understanding of module structures, learning outcomes and how students are assessed. Alongside design and technical modules, I work as a dissertation supervisor and help students with dissertation and essay writing, including literature reviews, research methods and design research.
My lessons are always tailored to the level, needs and goals of each student rather than following a fixed format. My approach employs a range of media, from freehand sketching and collage to physical models, digital tools and structured writing activities. Beginners may start with simple spatial exercises, basic sketching and learning how to read a design brief. More advanced learners may refine complex design projects, improve technical drawings, develop digital models or shape a clear dissertation or essay. For example, an early stage student might sketch a room layout while we discuss scale and purpose, whereas a university student might analyse precedents, test design strategies and organise a literature review that supports their research question.
Every session is practical, supportive and focused on steady progress. Whether the aim is exam success, portfolio development or confident academic writing, I create a clear, structured path that helps students deepen their design thinking and build strong, independent skills.
