The first session would be an introductory lesson where me and the student will get to know each other as well as discuss any goals you're working towards and what you would expect to achieve from these sessions; from this, i would create a plan with in depth details of what the ongoing sessions would contain and would be willing to discuss anything with the student such as any particular areas they may want to focus on. On top of this i would be setting some preparation to do beforehand as well as some consolidation to do afterwards to further condense what we have been working on (depending on the age level this would be tailored). From previous students i have taught, the best method i have seen that has worked is when i have incorporated learning -such as specific vocabulary- into quizzes or games which often makes students more willing to learn and helps them become more engaged as the learning process is more fun. However there may have to be some sessions (again depending on the age level)where we do have to have a more straightforward lesson to ensure that certain methods are working for the student because every student learns differently and it is important to stop and discuss what works and what doesn't. Sometimes i like to do a quick active recall quiz in the beginning and then go on to teach the content i planned for that session and then (depending on the time) we would do a more active activity where we could apply what we have learnt. If we do run out of time, then i would set some things to do to prepare for the next session and we would always go over it in the upcoming sessions. My main priority is the student and making sure we figure out the best way of learning for them; from there we can track their progress and evaluate certain areas in need of progress whilst also praising and acknowledging their strengths because that is just as important.
