My lessons would usually be split into 2 halves. The first half of the lesson would involve explaining the topic in detail. This first part would would be sprinkled with quiz questions at the end of each sub-topic. The second half of the lesson would then involve more in depth questions that students are more likely expected to answer in an A-level paper scenario.
For example: With A-Level maths, when teaching differentiation to a y12, I would first teach the student the fundamentals of differentiation and why it’s used (I.e to find a gradient of a graph), then test the student in second half of the lesson to ensure that the knowledge has been fully understood and is sufficient to tackle an exam question.
I believe that communication is vital when it comes to teaching. So my lessons would include a checkpoint after every subtopic where the student is able to go back and present any queries they have to me and we would go through it in detail, as I believe that identifying mistakes is paramount in ensuring that everything is checked for in the real exam!
