For any session I like to get to know the student and see how we can work together to make sessions work for them. I don't believe in a one size fits all teaching style, it depends on the student, subject and time we have. Say it were a political science paper, id like to go through the question and see where we're at in terms thinking, help suggest alternative paths of thinking we could take and see where that leads us, ensuring we have a solid plan by the end. Be it an ESOL lesson, I'd come prepared perhaps with a piece of writing or media relating to the student interest we can work through together.
I grew up finding learning very difficult, and now have a style that works for me, because of this experience I am especially understanding of neurodiverse minds and the ways in which people may learn differently - I never want anyone to feel stressed in my classroom, learning is something I take great joy in I want to show people that learning can be something that is enjoyed not just a labour to be endured.
In my classroom all thoughts and ways of thinking are not only welcome but respected, I hope to create a safe space for learning, a space to experiment and to make mistakes - for making mistakes is how we learn after all!
