I have five years of tutoring experience. I started doing informal sessions for younger pupils during my penultimate school year. Having really enjoyed it, I began formal self-employed tutoring and have since tutored GCSE, A-Level and University Physics Admissions. I've found a passion for helping young people to engage with the subjects I love and to grow in understanding and confidence.
My priority when tutoring is creating an environment where students feel secure and confident enough to ask questions. This is what allows students to truly improve in a subject. Too often I meet students who are scared to ask things for fear of getting it wrong or being seen as stupid and so they often do not progress. My approach to tutoring is built on the idea that the student is never at fault for not understanding; It is the job of the tutor to explain as many times and in as many different ways as necessary for the student to understand.
The sessions will be discussion based. I like to work through interesting problems to teach material and ask probing questions to let students work towards the answer themselves. This grows problem solving and a deep understanding of the subject. Developing problem solving rather than simply rote learning facts makes the subject more interesting, engaging and easier when it comes to exams. Everybody learns differently and my aim is to enable all students to feel confident in their understanding and find a love of learning.
