Hi! I'm Solène, a 21-year-old postgraduate student at the University of Edinburgh studying Climate Change Management. Originally from Switzerland, I've been tutoring mathematics for the past seven years. Over that time, I've worked with students of different ages and abilities, as well as friends and family, and I've found tutoring to be incredibly rewarding.

I genuinely believe that everyone can excel in mathematics, regardless of their current level. The most important step is developing the confidence and willingness to understand the concepts rather than simply memorising them. Once that happens, maths becomes less intimidating and starts to feel like solving an exciting puzzle.

My lessons are tailored to each student's needs and learning style. I take the time to understand what motivates them, what they find challenging, and how they learn best. This allows me to explain concepts in ways that are engaging, relatable, and easy to understand. Many of my students have told me that, after working together, they not only improved their grades but also started to enjoy mathematics much more than they ever expected.

Rather than simply giving answers, I guide students through each problem and encourage them to think independently. I help them recognise and correct their own mistakes by teaching strategies to check their work, whether through estimation, reverse calculations, or alternative methods. One of my favourite moments is when students realise they can confidently verify their own answers; it gives them a real sense of independence and confidence.

I'm also a very organised tutor, and I teach clear, step-by-step methods that are easy to follow and align with what schools and examiners expect. My goal is not only to help students achieve better results in their exams but also to build the confidence and problem-solving skills that will benefit them long after the lesson ends.

Above all, I genuinely love mathematics, and I enjoy sharing that enthusiasm with my students. Seeing someone go from feeling frustrated by maths to feeling confident and capable is the most rewarding part of tutoring.
