I have only had the pleasure of teaching a handful of students 1-1 thus far, all of whom have seen steady progressions in their studies thanks to the tailored lessons.

I would need to begin by assessing what level each student is starting at.

In terms of lessons and in what process they’re taught - conversational basics must be covered first, so that they are able to introduce themselves and describe themselves as well as ask conversational starter questions and pass on general greetings.

Once successfully completed, we begin to tackle grammar. This covers learning how to conjugate verbs into the 3 most commonly used tenses (preterite, present and future), to recognise verb endings and slowly grasp using common irregular verbs.

Once confidence builds, we will construct written answers to questions together to enhance their writing and reading skills. (Dependent on the student and the level of fluency, they will construct their own answers then we will correct mistakes together).

Then we will move back to grammar lessons, covering more sessions on the verb tenses (imperfect and future) in order to allow students to elaborate better, with more detailed answers.

Specifically for GCSE students, we will run through past exams together to build confidence so that when they face the real exams, they won’t seem as daunting. Practicing with past exams also helps me share knowledge of exam techniques and how to break down translation questions.

My teaching style is very interactive with a lot of fun quizzes and card games, including making your own flash cards. This repetition method helps to memorise vocabulary efficiently and will also assist in improving their pronunciation of words.
