I hold the JLPT N1 certification and bring firsthand experience of Japanese language and culture, having spent several months in Japan each year throughout my childhood. While I am new to formal tutoring, my academic background includes a First Class Honours degree in Geography and International Relations from the University of St Andrews and an MPhil in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge. In my current role as a Crisis & Disputes Consultant at FTI Consulting, I regularly draft, edit, and review written materials, developing strong communication skills and an excellent eye for detail.
My teaching approach would combine practical language skills with cultural context, adapting lessons to each student's goals and level. For those preparing to travel or move to Japan, this could include everyday conversations, ordering food, navigating transport, and understanding Japanese etiquette. For students with a broader interest in the language, I would focus on building vocabulary, improving comprehension, and exploring the nuances of natural Japanese. My aim is to make learning engaging, accessible, and relevant to real-life situations, while helping students gain confidence in using Japanese independently.
