Simon Bréus

My lessons are friendly, structured, and designed to help students progress with confidence. I have more than fifteen years of experience teaching French in UK Higher Education, including six years at the University of Exeter, where I taught levels from beginner to advanced and supported students with speaking, writing, listening, mediation and intercultural skills.

I create a welcoming atmosphere in class and adapt each lesson to the student’s goals, whether they want to improve fluency, prepare for an exam, strengthen grammar, or build confidence in everyday communication. Students often comment on how approachable I am, how clearly I explain expectations, and how responsive I am when they need guidance.

My teaching draws on a wide range of materials, including visual media and comics, which I use to introduce cultural topics in an engaging way. This helps students explore French and francophone cultures while developing language skills in a natural, enjoyable format. I also design CEFR-aligned assessments and activities, and my experience as an accredited DELF examiner ensures that students receive clear, reliable support when preparing for formal evaluations.

I provide structured feedback, encourage questions, and support learners both academically and pastorally. Many students have highlighted how helpful this has been for their progress and confidence. My lessons balance clarity, cultural insight, and a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and improving week by week. My teaching style revolves around an open, communicative approach, which ensures that we can adjust to your needs as they evolve and as you progress.
