I am a highly experienced teacher of English and place a strong focus on student learning and engagement. I have 18 years of service in the Secondary academic setting and five years private tutoring and developing schemes of work for private clients.

My soul aims are teaching students the principles of high-level writing, literature analysis, and close
reading. With excellent understanding of curriculum development and assessment methods based on
research and practice, I have a genuine interest in the needs and aspirations of all students and have
much experience adapting teaching materials to meet specific learning styles especially SEN/EAL.

My students enjoy both the variety of creative materials I utilise and the graduated learning and assessment techniques I employ, with a strong focus on self-assessment. I believe in challenging my students according to individual abilities, hence my materials and lessons are very unique to each learner/student.

An example of one of my lessons:

I will send through a lesson PowerPoint that we can work through at the same time.
I will discuss what we are going to do in the lesson and talk about the outcomes.
I may begin with a worksheet activity such as a vocabulary definition quiz or a mind map on a specific topic or idea.
We will then begin the lesson and go through each slide together. The slides may contain anything from pictures to assessment materials and I always allow my student time to discuss any ideas or questions he/she might have regarding their learning approach.
At the end of each lesson I ensure the student has the time to self-assess their learning and discuss any problems they may have encountered and also what he/she liked/disliked about the lesson.

I am happy to run my lesson over by about 20 minutes without any extra cost to you.

I hope this helps in your choice of tutors and look forward to teaching you soon either online or face to face at home.

Sherrie has been helping us for about two months now, and our son finds her lessons very enjoyable, Sherrie is an excellent teacher and a kind and lovely person, she provides a relaxed and fresh environment for her students, so they have the best learning experience they can get!! We’re very fortunate to have found her and that she was able to prepare our son for his GCSE next year!
