I have been a private tutor for the past two years teaching complex topics in A-Level studies. My main focus has been on the History and Politics A-Level disciplines, but I have also tutored University applications and work experience applications techniques for older students. As a result, I have the experience to tutor lower levels, including secondary school students all the way to GCSE, and primary school students all the way until the SATS.
Typically, students aim for 2-3 lessons per week and we focus on one topic per lesson. This is either content or exam technique (how to apply the content in the right way during exam conditions). The topics are widely flexible depending on the students preferences and they are able to decide what they want to study depending on what they are weaker in. Additionally, I mark work free of charge outside of lesson hours and can bring marked work prepared in advance to the lesson so there is no time wasted during the paid lesson. Furthermore, I typically assign homework to students to bring to the next lesson, this is not strict and there is naturally no punishment for failing to complete the assignments, however, it does help to gauge the strength and weaknesses of students; helping to tailor the lesson to their benefit further.
For my format, I always create a presentation before the lessons begins. This is so the information is clear and the students do not have to waste time writing anything down if this is not helpful for them. I always share the presentation with students online before lessons begin so they can write on the document and follow along. I always make a point to not speak for lengths of time so the session is consistently interactive. If this is an in-person session, I print out the presentation if the student does not have a screen of their own available. Pictures are shown in the presentation, and I optimise past papers to investigate potential questions that may come up, and myself and the student work through them together or the student does so in exam conditions.
