Hi, I'm Sarah, and I love teaching Latin and Classics. I taught in secondary schools in Scotland for over ten years, working with pupils at N5, Higher and Advanced Higher level, and I still really enjoy watching a pupil work out a tricky sentence or finally feel confident with a topic they'd been finding difficult. I have also spent time as an item writer for the N5 Latin exam, so I have a clear sense of what examiners are looking for and how to help pupils feel properly prepared.
I also have training and experience working with neurodivergent learners, and I enjoy figuring out what approach suits each pupil best. Some pupils like a structured, step by step approach, while others do better with more discussion and exploring ideas as we go. I try to adapt to what actually works rather than sticking to one method.
For me, tutoring is about more than good marks, I want pupils to come away feeling like Latin and the ancient world are exciting, whether that's the mythology, the history, or just the satisfaction of working out the language itself.
My own interests are Greek mythology and Latin etymology, and I love sharing them with pupils. I try to bring that curiosity into lessons where I can.
Sessions are relaxed and pupil led. There's no question that's silly or not worth asking, and we go at whatever pace suits you. If you're studying for an exam, want help with a specific text, or are curious about the ancient world, I'd love to help.
