In prior tutoring with IB MYP students, I have usually first covered the content from the specification, with key details and explanations, ensuring understanding of information. With biology, it is necessary to understand not only the content but how to apply it, so I also believe exam-style or past paper questions are essential to look at, and understand how to achieve full marks. As well as this, I believe recalling information from previous sessions is essential for long-term retention, so before starting with a lesson, I will briefly recall content from the previous lesson(s) to make sure it sticks. As a Y12 student myself, I would also be happy to offer advice on self-study and techniques to ensure performance beyond in class and through tutoring to build confidence in the long term.
