I usually like to start of the lesson with going through a few questions all based on different topics. I will hand pick these questions in advance. After seeing how well the student does I like to continue the lesson based on what topic seems to be the most difficult for them. I will go through this topic with the student briefly then allow them to practice multiple questions on it whilst I aid them with any queries along the way. This method has very often worked for my students as I believe it allows their brain to process their mistakes and fix them quicker overtime, rather than giving a long lecture after each question they get wrong. This also tends to keep most students alert and somewhat interested in the work. Some students find certain topics more difficult than others and when this is the case I like to keep pushing them to practice different questions of the same style until they understand how it works.
