Before I have my first lesson with the student, I like to call with the student and parents (if wanted) and get to know basic things about them such as what they are studying, their studying patterns, what they think their strengths and weaknesses are and how best I could help them. This assists me in understanding the student and what they would like me to focus on. I then assign a small quiz/test to test their knowledge, and then talk about this during the first lesson. I also ask them to compile a list of things they would like me to focus on as well, in order of priority.
The dynamic of my lessons includes working through questions, but also assigning most of them for homework so that our lesson is not spent entirely on them completing questions and me overlooking this. I also place a strong emphasis on helping students develop effective study habits and independent learning skills that will benefit them beyond our tutoring sessions. Rather than simply providing answers, I encourage students to think critically, identify patterns in their mistakes, and develop confidence in their own abilities. I regularly monitor progress through practice questions and informal assessments, adapting lesson plans as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
My aim is to create an engaging and supportive learning environment where students feel motivated to achieve their goals and develop a genuine understanding of the subject matter.
