My psychology lessons are structured, engaging and focused on helping students develop both a strong understanding of the subject and the skills needed to succeed in exams. I aim to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring difficult concepts and building confidence in their abilities.

A key part of my teaching approach is helping students learn how to memorise and retain the necessary content effectively. Rather than simply encouraging students to reread their notes, I introduce practical revision techniques, such as active recall, spaced repetition and the use of concise summaries or flashcards. These methods help students consolidate their knowledge, identify gaps in their understanding and become more independent learners.

Once students have developed a solid foundation of knowledge, we focus on applying it to exam questions. I provide a detailed breakdown of the different question types, explaining how each should be approached and what examiners are looking for in a successful response. This includes understanding command words, structuring answers appropriately, meeting specific word counts where relevant, and identifying the key points that should be included to achieve higher marks. We also explore what distinguishes a basic answer from a more developed, precise and evaluative response.

Throughout the lessons, I encourage students to practise answering questions, receive constructive feedback and gradually refine their exam technique. We work through examples together, analyse model answers and identify common mistakes, ensuring students understand not only what makes an answer effective but also why.

My experience of teaching psychology is centred on making the subject accessible and manageable, particularly for students who feel overwhelmed by the volume of content or uncertain about how to approach exam questions. I aim to give every student a clear strategy for revision, a deeper understanding of the material and the confidence to communicate their knowledge effectively under exam conditions. Ultimately, my goal is to help students become more organised, independent and successful in their psychology studies.
