During my lessons I typically start with explaining the basic concept/topic and respond to feedback from the student whether this is something they are very confident with or would like to start slowly as they are unsure. Then, I will work through a simple example question to demonstrate the skills, followed by allowing the student to work through similar questions and slowly introduce harder and harder questions as they feel confident in order to challenge them and fully prepare them for the harder questions they can expect.
I work very well with students who are willing to engage and respond to my questions, and have the confidence to attempt questions even if they are unsure they have the correct method/answer, as well as those willing to ask me questions about specific parts they are struggling with. My sessions can be either managed on the go with no plan, or I am happy to create materials in advance for a topic we have agreed to cover.
I am continuing to study mathematics, and have been tutoring maths for several years now which has allowed me to gain a good understanding of methods that work and other things which are not quite as effective.
