Hello! My name is Samuel Gardiner, and I’m an 18-year-old TEFL-qualified English tutor from the UK. I’ve taught English in a variety of environments, including three and a half months working in the slums of Mumbai, India, where I supported under-resourced schools and helped students improve their English in both spoken and written form. More recently, I taught at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, where I delivered a full week of tailored lessons to international exchange students from France and China. In addition to my English teaching experience, I’ve also worked as a private maths tutor and piano teacher, giving me a well-rounded approach to supporting students with different learning styles and needs.

My lessons are friendly, relaxed, and built around the specific goals of each student. I focus on making English practical and useful—something students can actually apply in their daily lives, not just memorise from a textbook. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an advanced learner looking to fine-tune your fluency, I create lessons that build real confidence in using the language. I take time to get to know each student’s personality, strengths, and goals, and I adapt my lessons to suit those needs. My aim is to make students feel like they’re learning with a friend, not just a teacher.

Each session typically starts with a short warm-up conversation to get us talking and thinking in English. From there, we move into the main focus of the lesson, which might include a grammar point, a themed discussion, a reading task, or pronunciation practice, depending on the learner’s level and aims. I always give time for practice and feedback, ending the lesson with a quick review of what went well and what to focus on next. For students working towards a goal—like an IELTS exam, a job interview, or improving their accent—I’m more than happy to build a custom lesson plan around those objectives.

What sets my teaching apart is the atmosphere I create. I work hard to build rapport with my students, helping them feel comfortable, confident, and motivated to improve. I’ve had experience designing full syllabuses from scratch, both in India and the UK, and I bring that same thoughtfulness to every lesson I plan. Having worked with learners from many different countries and backgrounds, I know how to adapt to individual needs and bring out the best in every student.

If you’re looking for an English tutor who is passionate, flexible, and committed to your progress, I’d love to hear from you. I’m excited to help you or your child grow in confidence and fluency, and I’m always happy to answer questions or schedule an introductory conversation.
