Experience: I finished my bachelor of arts in English and philosophy with a 4.00 GPA ('A' in every course taken) and various honours including an exclusive prize for excellence in both of my subjects. Before then, I received a D2 (A* equivalent) in Pre-U English. I am now studying for my MPhil in Philosophy of Religion, having won a full-tuition scholarship to the University of Cambridge. I tutored English writing for three years whilst an undergraduate, guiding my university peers through their various writing assignments. I eventually became the Lead Tutor at the university Writing Centre, a job which involved training other tutors for their own sessions.
Lessons: I adjust my lessons to meet the needs of the tutee. I can guide tutees in the subjects of English, philosophy, and religious studies - or just general writing, applicable for any humanities subject - all the way from Common Entrance through to undergraduate level. I'm happy to work either in person or on Zoom, though have a preference for the latter. I like to get to know my tutees well during the course of our sessions as this allows for smoother interactions, and helps me as I tinker with my pedagogical approach to hone in on the best approach for the given tutee. As a rule of thumb I try to give the tutee the lead on questions of content and focus, but acknowledge that sometimes it's better for me to direct us both - it all depends on the particular person I'm working with, and the educative needs they have.
