My lessons are structured around the PEEL format (Point, Evidence, Explanation, Link), a framework I find particularly effective for helping students build clear, well-argued essays and develop the analytical habits that examiners look for at A-level. Each session is designed to be interactive rather than passive. We move between guided discussion, worked examples, and active practice so that students are not just listening but engaging directly with the material. I believe sociology is best understood when students can connect theories to the world around them, so I bring in real-world examples, case studies, and current events to make abstract concepts feel concrete and relevant.
I draw on my BSc Hons in Sociology and my ongoing MSc in Global Health, as well as my experience in qualitative research, to add genuine depth to the discussions we have in sessions. This academic background means I can explain theories clearly, challenge students to think critically, and support them in structuring high-quality arguments for their exams and coursework.
Beyond the content itself, I adapt my teaching to each student. Some learn best through discussion, others through writing practice or visual aids, so I adjust my approach to what works for them. I also make sure they feel comfortable enough to ask questions, make mistakes, and build confidence over time without pressure. I am experienced in adapting to different exam boards, tailoring the specification focus, question styles, and assessment objectives to whichever board the student is sitting, so every session is directly relevant to what they will be assessed on.
