It's critical, in my opinion, that students get both information and experience in the classroom. The traditional lecture structure for a class is crucial for giving the students the fundamental knowledge they need, but it should be combined with strategies that include the students more directly. In my own teaching practises and lesson plans, I work to achieve this objective by incorporating discussion-based learning into the classroom, using computer simulations and demonstrations to help students experience the concepts they are learning, and actively involving students in professional research. Rather than standing alone at the front of the classroom, a successful teacher engages their students actively in their field of study.
